Situated at the confluence of the Jhelum and the Neelum rivers Muzaffarabad the capital of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It is located 138 km from Rawalpindi and 79 km from Abbottabad. Surrounded by tall mountains, it looks like a walled town. It is the administrative capital of Azad Kashmir.

Muzaffarabad is home to three main rivers flowing through Kashmir, Neelum , Jehlum and Kunhar. Neelum river merge itself intothe river Jhelum at Domail. Domail, the confluence of two mighty rivers, presents highly fascinating scene of youthful embrace. This heart-warning spectacle is most soothing to the eye. Later, few miles down the road, River Kunhar joins the Jehlum river and they flow thousands of miles to meet the mighty Arabian sea.

Apart from its own history and abundant natural beauty, Muzaffarabad is near to numerous scenic locations which can be accessed via metalled road for a perfect day trip.

East of the city is a road climbing above the town from where one can drive upto Pir Chinasi at 2,900 meters with breathtaking views of the Jhelum Valley and the higher mountains above the Neelum to the north. From western entrance of the city at Lohar Gali, can walk along the ridge looking over the Jhelum and Kunhar rivers for a beautiful and amazing overview of the city. A few km away is ‘Makra mountain’ 3,890 meters which is visible from Muzaffarabad and continues on to Shogran in the Kaghan Valley.
